Innovation and collaboration: the keys to better patient care.
With over 30 years of experience in dialysis and innovative research, Fresenius Medical Care is the world's leading provider of products and services for people undergoing dialysis to help manage kidney failure — a condition which affects around 3 million people worldwide. Through its network of over 3752 dialysis clinics across 50 countries, Fresenius Medical Care starts a life-saving dialysis treatment for a patient somewhere in the world every 0.7 seconds.
In Indonesia, Fresenius Medical Care has been providing dialysis products and therapies since 2005 with a simple, yet powerful mission: to improve the quality of life for Indonesian people living with chronic kidney disease.
Dr Parulian Simandjuntak was appointed as Managing Director for Fresenius Medical Care Indonesia in November 2017 and is leading the company to expand its commitment and reach to patients, healthcare professionals and the wider community.
As a medical doctor with a master's degree in management and a career spanning over 20 years in the healthcare industry, Dr Simandjuntak is equally adept in steering both the medical and business drivers of the company.
"With the implementation of universal health cover in Indonesia through the Jaminan Kesehatan Nasional, coupled with the growing number of Indonesians who suffer from chronic kidney disease, it has become increasingly important to provide innovative solutions for dialysis services throughout the country, which include flexible models of care that can adapt to local needs," said Dr Simandjuntak. To this end, Fresenius Medical Care has established five Public-Private Partnership dialysis clinics in Indonesia. These clinics help to meet Indonesia's growing demand for dialysis and the need for improved infrastructure and service delivery. Plans are in place to expand the network of clinics in 2018 to deliver kidney care to more people.
With more clinics comes an increased commitment to education of healthcare professionals. Fresenius Medical Care provides this by working with the Ministry of Health and other health organisations to deliver Indonesia's first dialysis training program that has Continuing Medical Education (CME) accreditation.
Importantly, the company has a focus beyond dialysis. Fresenius Medical Care Indonesia takes its role of corporate social responsibility seriously by promoting kidney health in the wider community. The Kidney Kid is the company's edutainment (education + entertainment) program that takes children on a series of adventures where they learn more about their kidneys and how to keep them healthy. In Indonesia, The Kidney Kid program has gained widespread media attention and a positive following from school children, helping to empower Indonesians to live healthier lives.
"As the advocate of European business in Indonesia, our partnership with EuroCham allows us to amplify our voice. Ultimately, we aim to reinforce our lifelong commitment to dialysis patients, and to strengthen the local healthcare capabilities," said Dr Simandjuntak.
Fresenius Medical Care’s corporate headquarters are in Bad Homburg v.d.H., Germany. The headquarters for Asia Pacific are located in Hong Kong.
