Energy Working Group Meeting

The Energy Working Group’s meeting is back to its usual schedule but in a hybrid mode, as lastly organized on 28 October 2021. This meeting invited Paul Butarbutar (Co-Founder of the Indonesia Research Institute for Decarbonization (IRID) who shared about the Carbon Developments in Indonesia - Insights Sharing and Formulation of Our Position and Recommendations. Along with this, Ari Bessendorf from Allen & Overy, one of EuroCham’s members, also shared his insights on carbon tax as part of the proposed cap and trade system that may eventually impact key sectors of the economy and every level of government. This hybrid meeting was hosted by David Cullerier (Board Patron of the EuroCham Energy Working Group) and led by Thomas Wagner (Head of the EuroCham Energy Working Group).

How Businesses Can Build Resilience To Climate Impacts Throughout Value Chains

The event began with opening remarks delivered by Francois de Maricourt, Board Patron of the EuroCham Sustainable Development Group and President Director of HSBC Indonesia, as well as a keynote speech by H.E. Suharso Monarfa, the Minister of the National Development Planning (Bappenas). The event, moderated by Noor Aspasia (Sisi), involved various speakers from the private sector representing chemical, manufacturing, retail and resource transformation. Representing the manufacturing industry was Mr. Karyanto Wibowo, Head of the EuroCham Sustainable Development Working Group and Sustainability Director of Danone Indonesia, who conveyed how business initiates projects to recycle plastic waste. Other panelists included Riswan Sipayung (President Director of Dow Indonesia), Yuvlinda Susanta (Head of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability of Superindo), and Joko Sunaryo (Director of VSI and Country Representative of Veolia Indonesia).
